Phoenix To The Grand Canyon

Posted on March 4, 2024

3/4/99: I got to play catch with Daniel this morning, and hear all about his adventures as a quarter-midget race-car driver (“They’re not go-carts!” both he and his father told me…). He’s pretty good for a six-year-old! Mario Andretti look out… Robyn and the kids came up to Eric’s work site (he’s a surveyor) north of Phoenix so we could all have lunch together. I wish we had more time to spend with them… Then we drove further north to see the Grand Canyon. It was a long shot, but we drove into the park, and straight to the resort village on the south rim to see if there would be any rooms we could afford. We got the last dorm style room (everything but a private bathroom…) for just $44. It got even better when, as the sun was setting, we stepped into the Arizona Steak House and got the last available window seat overlooking the canyon as the colors were beginning their daily show. This was quite a nice way to celebrate our third anniversary, even if it was five days early!

3/4/24: We have been back to the Grand Canyon with our sons on a camping trip. It is a wonder of the natural world, and worth seeing in person, as photos cannot do it justice. I hope we get back there again.

NOTE: The photo above shows Ruth and I enjoying the sunset at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.

A pair of hawks of some kind glides on the thermals with the moon shining in the background.
