Jingshan Park

Posted on September 26, 2023

9/26/98: Tourist day: Jingshan Park and Gardens, Beihai Lagoon, the White Pagoda, and Tianenmen Square… Jingshan Park, immediately north of the Forbidden City complex, was spectacular… Grand strolling boulevards lined with colorful gardens full of flowers, well-tended landscaping, so many trees it feels like we are in a forest… We climbed the small hill in the park, which bears the title of “highest point in Beijing…” A bit hazy today, but still worth the view over the Forbidden City…

NOTE: The photo above shows the pagoda atop the hill in Jingshan Park, from which visitors can get a glimpse over the walls and into the Forbidden City Palace complex.

Catering to tourists like us, there are regular performances of historical reenactments, such as this group of fellows dressed as circa 1800s servants carrying royalty around in a gilded palanquin (i.e., litter).
Jingshan Park is beautifully landscaped with gardens and trees, including this pomegranate fruit tree.
