Crossing Long Rivers

9/24/98: 30+ hour train ride north, from Hong Kong to Beijing, through beautiful country… Over the course of the trip, we passed over both the Yangtze River and the Yellow River. Including the Nile in Egypt, and the Mississippi in the US, now we have crossed 4 of the 6 longest rivers in the world…

NOTE: The photo above shows Ruth purchasing our lunch of bao (steamed buns stuffed with pork) at one of the open-air markets in Beijing.

 

This street filled each evening with open air vendors who park their 3-wheeld bicycles which are equipped with grills and coolers full of coloroful vegetables, a huge variety of meats (including small birds), and edible insects (such as crickets and scorpions). They cook everything to order on the spot. It was delicious.
