Rocky Mountain National Park

Posted on June 3, 2025

I’ve quoted this song on the blog before, but here goes again: “I’ve sung in mountain cathedrals, with steeples rising high, and altars made of evergreen, and windows made of sky.” (from a song by Bob Bennett)

I am thankful to God for our camping trip to Rocky Mountain National Park. 2 days of driving out, 2 Nights in Timber Creek on the west side of the mountains, 4 nights in Aspen Glen on the east side of the mountains, and 2 days of driving back to Chicago.

Miles and miles of hiking, lots of wild animals and birds, delicious meals (Ruth and Josiah made Pad Thai on a Coleman camping stove!), some rain (but we stayed dry), and overnight temps in the 30s-40s (but we stayed warm… enough), and lots of family time together!

Our campsite for two nights in Timber Creek.
Chilly but beautiful morings.
Ian at a footbridge across the Colorado River near its source point.
On the trail up to Nymph Lake.
Marshmallows over the campfire.
Straddling the Continental Divide: snow melt flows down one side to the Pacific and down the other side to the Atlantic and the Gulf.
Josiah and Ruth making Pad Thai for dinner.

Nymph Lake.
Some elk calfs took a nap near our tent one afternoon.
Why did you climb that rock face? Because it was there.
Banana pancakes for breakfast.
Traffic in Aspen Glen. Lots of elk!
Bull moose walking by our campsite.
Watch out for Grizzly Chipmunks.
Campfire chats.
He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother!
Moonlight in Aspen Glen.
