A Birthday Nap In Kula

Posted on February 22, 2024

2/22/99: Dad, Ruth and I went down to Makena again. More snorkeling Ahihi Bay. Tons of beautiful fish, and I saw a big old boat motor of some sort, all overgrown with moss and coral about 40 yards out and 20 feet deep. Someday I’ve got to try scuba diving!… Later we gave Dad a hammock as a birthday present, put it together on the balcony of their cottage, and he took a nap while Ruth made a big birthday dinner for him…

2/22/24: *During our 1999 stay with Dad & Mom at the end of our round-the-world trip, we did not take many photos. So, I am posting photos and stories from some of our other trips to Maui over the years.

NOTE: The photo above shows Dad happily napping in his new hammock on the balcony of their cottage in Kula, a gift we gave him on his birthday while staying with them in 1999.

This view of Dad in his new hammock shows a bit of the beautiful view down to the valley and ocean from Dad’s and Mom’s cottage in Kula, Maui, circa 1999.
The photo above shows part of the coral reef in the Makena area, which I took while snorrkeling during our 2010 trip to Maui.
