2/10/99: I began the process of sorting through the slides from our trip. There’s at least 2,000!
2/10/24: *During our 1999 stay with Dad & Mom at the end of our round-the-world trip, we did not take many photos. So, I am posting photos and stories from some of our other trips to Maui over the years.
At the top of the 2 mile hike up the Pipiwai Trail are the Waimoku Falls. A 400-foot tall cataract streams down the cliff face of a crescent shaped canyon. I imagine it as a concert hall specially designed by God to display the harmony of the tropical birds and insects in the surrounding jungle with the flowing hum and crashing percussion of the fresh water as it spills into a shallow plunge pool that is the head of the Pipiwai Stream. When we last visited in June of 2023, the risk of falling rocks and the final crossing of a rocky stream have increased the danger of going the last 100 yards or so to the plunge pool. There is now a Park Ranger regularly stationed at the top of the trail who warns people off and keeps them safe. Thankfully, you are still plenty close to feel the mist on your face, appreciate the sounds, and get amazing photos of this beautiful site.
