Hawai’ian Heritage

Posted on January 31, 2024

1/31/99: Went to Church at Emmanuel Lutheran, the church that Ruth grew up in, in Kahului. We were warmly welcomed and, after the church service, we were asked to speak at an upcoming service to talk story about our big adventure… This afternoon we watched the Super Bowl and ate pizza back home with Dad and Mom…

NOTE: The photo above, from our 2004 visit to Maui, shows the Keawela’i Congregational Church which was built in 1832, just north of Maluaka Beach in Makena. This is the area where Dad grew up, and his heritage goes back many generations in the Lono-Kailua family. We have often visited the family grave site in this church’s cemetery.
