Dancing In The Dragon’s Jaws

Posted on January 26, 2024

1/26/99: Another relaxed day of reading…

1/26/24: During our 1999 stay on Maui, there were various events in late January building up to the celebration of the Chinese Lunar New Year. One day, we came upon this dragon dance performance in downtown Wailuku put on for children by a local Chinese heritage group. The dragon is a symbol of good fortune and, prancing around to the sound of cymbals and gongs, bestows the good fortune on various children in the audience.

NOTE: The photo above shows a dragon dance in downtown Wailuku celebrating the Chinese New Year in January 1999.
