A Few Days Of Relaxing

Posted on May 1, 2023

NOTE: I didn’t post over the weekend, so I’m catching up on Days 37-39 of the trip today…

4/29/98: Checked email at an internet cafe. Heard a beautiful jazz tune on the radio: Petit Fleur by Sidney Bechet. Walked to Venetian Fortezza. Dinner at Stella’s again. They’re really nice folks here. Went to see a new movie: Good Will Hunting. Very powerful story.

4/30/98: Hunted up the OTE (post office) to send off some post cards to family and friends back home. Did some window shopping. Not that we need any windows at the moment…

5/1/98: Spent yet another day sleeping in, reading, and just talking together. This is a nice time of relaxation!!!

5/1/23: Those were slow, lazy days in Rethymno in any case. We just did a little bit of sight-seeing in the “old town,” and a lot of reading. The first book we read aloud together was “Random Harvest,” by James Hilton. I’m writing a separate post about that book here.

Interesting architectural studies in Rethymno, on the island of Crete: a doorway with the address inscribed in Arabic. This building and door were built during the Emirate of Crete era of 827–961AD.
